INTIAL NCLEX-RN APPLICATION - NEW YORK STATE

In order to become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, you need to submit state-specific requirements to the Office of the Professions New York State Education Department. Foreign graduates will be required to submit certain forms to their Nursing School and Local Licensing Authority to be filled out and sent back to OPNYSED.  A course certificate for Child Abuse and Infection control as well as an RN application to the Board of Nursing will be required.  Once an applicant is deemed eligible to take the NCLEX, your eligibility does not expire. 

Once an applicant is deemed eligible to take the NCLEX, the Pearson Vue registration must be submitted in order for the Board of Nursing to release the ATT or Authority to Take, which will be used to schedule the exam. 

Once the ATT has been released, it will only be valid for 6 months which means you will need to take the NCLEX within the validity period of your ATT. You will be able to pick a testing center as well as the date and time of your exam.

Your NCLEX-RN result will be available 48 hours after taking the examination.

Congratulations, you passed the NCLEX-RN examination! Your license documents will be mailed to your address on file with the Board of Nursing. If you reside outside the United States, it may take anywhere from 1-3 months for the documents to arrive since NY mails the documents via regular mail and without a tracking number. Within a few weeks, you should be able to view your license number at  Nursys®  or  Verification Search | Office of the Professions (nysed.gov)
